I think I've done everything right, ie. Created a workgroup and started sharing for my entire Windows disc (C) and turned network discovery on. When I type my IP address into the Mac using SMB:// code, it seems to see the workgroup I created but asks for a password. Promo code for mac 2017. I can't figure out which password you want. If you mean the password I created to go with my name as admin, I have tried several passwords and no password. Nothing works. Earlier I created a password for a homegroup before realizing Mac can't apparently connect to them. I tried that password as well and that didn't work. Any help much apprecited. But Apple do the exact same thing when they have a monopoly i.e. Use it to cripple competition in other markets. Look how they use the iTunes to dominate the music player and now smartphone (what they did with the Palm Pre) or trying to destroy Flash by not supporting it on iPhone/iPad forcing content providers to use HTML5 (something they have a lot of influence over, a lot of 'open' standards are controlled by a group of companies that are looking to or at least where created to break the hold over the dominant player). Lets just except all companies do it but I wish they wouldn't as it's such a pain. All that being said: There's nothing to stop Apple from bringing out a patch everytime Microsoft change the rules and have it applied along with a bootcamp update. They're a hugely profitable company. It's not like this isn't feasible.
The chances are that they don't really want you talking to cheap windows servers and actually quite like the fact it forces mac users to buy things like Timecapsule etc. You don't know why Microsoft changed the settings, there could have been a valid reason and surely it's up to the player with 10% of the market to make sure their stuff works for the player with 90%.
